Organize a Canned Food Drive

cans of vegetables with tops off

If you are not the group's leader, then meet with your supervisor / teacher to get permission. Explain to them the importance of canned foods to Food For Life Network (FFLN), the only non-profit organization solely dedicated to feeding women, men and children living with HIV/AIDS in our community.

Design a Flyer. Make it simple, colorful and informative. Place the flyer on bulletin boards in restrooms, break rooms, employee lounges and in your news letter or bulletin.

Turn the food drive into a contest. Have each department / grade or level pick a name (i.e. "The Bean Pushers"). Give the winning team a prize (i.e.: day off, pizza party, casual dress day, etc.)

Set a Goal. Let everyone know that you are looking to donate a minimum of 500 cans or 5 containers full, to help motivate your participants.

Decorate your collection containers. Clean heavy-duty trash cans or large cardboard boxes make good containers. Make sure the Food For Life Network logo and mission statement is clearly visible to your donors. Don't forget to clearly post the deadline for the drive.

Send everyone reminders. Use email, make announcements or give updates of number of cans collected and countdown to the drive's deadline.

Remember to "Thank Everyone for Helping!"
